CSE Supports Carbon Neutral ESG Shipping Awards 2025

The Centre for Sustainability and Excellence (CSE) proudly partnered with the ESG Shipping Awards 2025 as the official Carbon Neutrality Partner, reinforcing its commitment to advancing sustainability in the maritime sector on a global scale. The international ceremony, held on May 23rd in Athens, brought together key industry leaders to celebrate outstanding Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) performance in shipping.

CSE Enables Verified Climate Action for a Greener Future

As Carbon Neutrality Partner, CSE ensured that greenhouse gas emissions from the event were fully offset through high-integrity, third-party verified climate projects. The offsetting supported the DelAgua Rwanda Stoves Project, a transformative program that promotes clean cooking technologies to reduce deforestation, cut emissions, and improve public health across rural communities in Rwanda.

All offsets were verified and permanently retired by an internationally accredited provider, further validating the awards’ commitment to sustainability and CSE’s leadership in responsible climate action.

“Supporting carbon-neutral events is more than a gesture—it’s about accountability and setting an example,” said Nikos Avlonas, President of CSE. “We are proud to stand beside maritime pioneers who recognize that ESG excellence includes climate responsibility.”

ESG Shipping Awards: Recognizing Global Maritime Leaders

The ESG Shipping Awards 2025 illuminated the maritime industry’s dedication to sustainability, drawing over 400 global stakeholders to Athens on May 23rd. Held under the auspices of the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Insular Policy and the Hellenic Chamber of Shipping, the ceremony celebrated exemplary achievements in ESG practices. Distinguished attendees included Deputy Minister Stefanos Gkikas, European Parliament representative Dimitris Tsiodras, and Hellenic Coast Guard Commandant Vice Admiral Tryfon Kontizas, among others.

Organizers Helena Athoussaki and Katerina Stathopoulou emphasized the industry’s evolution from compliance to ESG leadership, highlighting both strategic initiatives and the individuals driving meaningful change. Deputy Minister Gkikas remarked on Greece’s profound maritime heritage and its unwavering commitment to sustainable seaborne trade, underscoring ESG’s role as both a modern necessity and a catalyst for innovation in the shipping sector.
